Presenters: Mike McLaughlin
Area of study: Taiwan Pop-Royalty Session Guitarist
Identity: I’m Mike McLaughlin, I was born and raised in St. Louis,Mo USA. I started studying and playing guitar at the age of 10, was playing in garage bands by age 12, and was playing in clubs making money by 17. I later studied music at renowned Webster University in St. Louis by day, while playing rock and roll at the clubs by night. At the age of 23 I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my musical career which lead to auditions with every band I could, session recording work, and eventually a gig as lead guitarist for legendary drummer and singer Peter Criss, founding member of the band Kiss. Several tours and CD’s followed including several co-headlining tours with founding Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley. In 2001 I got a chance to go to Taipei and work with legendary singer Chyi Chin 齊秦 at his new production company. Through this connection I got gig’s over the years working recording and touring with artists such as Amei 张惠妹, Jolin Tsai 蔡依林, Power Station 動力火車, David Tao 陶喆, Luo Da You 羅大佑 and many others. In my presentation I will talk about my journey as a musician from a young kid in love with rock and roll to being a professional musician now here based in Asia. What I’ve learned over 40+ years of experience as well as many stories about life on the road in America as well as here in Asia
Unfortunately due to the covid situation and quarintine travel, Mike McLaughlin will not be able to join us for EMI. He also does not feel like doing online presentation with guitar.
